The Centre of Jaina Studies at SOAS is offering one 3-year PhD Scholarship in Jaina Studies for entry in September 2025.

Applicants from a broad range of disciplines and approaches to Jain Studies are encouraged to apply, e.g. historical, philosophical, and anthropological, from within the study of religions. For the first year of this award in 2025-26, the total scholarship provided will be £41,652. This amount will cover tuition fees, with the remaining funds to be paid directly to the scholar as a stipend. In subsequent years, funding will be uplifted to support increased tuition fees.

Dr Jasvantbhai Modi, Dr Meeraben Modi and their family generously support the Bhagavan Mahavira PhD Scholarship.

Currently, Dr Jasvantbhai and Dr Meeraben are most likely the world’s biggest donors to the academic study of Jainism. They deserve our respect and affection for their commitment to the cause of Jain and Prakrit Studies.
