Respected Dr. Sangaveji, Dr. Khadbadiji, Dr. Shaliji, Dr.
Mittalji, Dr. Tiwariji, Dr. Sangh senji, Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me immense pleasure in thanking you all particularly
Dr. Sangaveji who inspite of his indifferent health has come to this place
to deliver these lectures and has thus been instrumental in making the
series of lectures on Jainism a success. These lectures were. instituted
in 1975 at the instance of Prof. Dr. D.S. Kothariji and were blessed by
late Dr. A.N. Upadhyeji and now they have become a full grown institution
in themselves. They have not only initiated study in the field of
Jainology, Ahimsa, Anekanta and Sayadvada in Delhi University, but have
given an impetus in starting a new wave of researches in other
Universities and institutions as well.
Dr. Sangaveji happens to be a distinguished Professor of
Sociology and a scholar of international repute in Jainology. He wrote a
number of books on Jainology, especially on Jain Social History. At
present he is associated with Shahu Research Center, Shivaji University,
Kolhapur (Maharashtra) as its Honorary Director.
I am specially thankful to the Delhi University Authorities,
particularly the Deptt. of Buddhist Studies, for arranging these lectures
and making them a success. I also thank you all for sparing your valuable
time and taking the trouble in coming over here to attend these lectures
and thus encouraging all of us.
